Sgwarnog: In the Field

Craven

A sunny evening in Skipton saw the culmination of this year’s Craven District FA Challenge Cup.

Craven is one of thirteen district associations that together comprise the West Riding County Football Association. These associations generally date back to the early years of the governance of football in England. District associations organise their own cup and league competitions, with the District FA Cup usually being seen as the most prestigious trophy.

Grassington were taking on Rolls FC, the latter so called for their association with the Rolls Royce plant at Barnoldswick. Both teams seemed well matched and it looked like we might be heading for a 0-0 and penalties, but Grassington popped up with a winner late on.

And they certainly didn’t scrimp on the medals and trophies (extra).
