Flashing

Not long after midnight, I noticed a frequent flickering from outside. Were my eyes playing tricks, was someone flashing a light outside or was it the lightning my mam had warned me about and that I had dismissed? I didn’t like it.

Peering through the blinds, I ‘look[ed] up to the skies and [saw] … lightning / very very frightening’ (‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ by Queen). It was flashing every few seconds. I didn’t like it.

My app-for-that told me there were a lot of strikes to the south-west, and that they were coming nearer. I didn’t like it.

The rain started, so I battened down the hatches. It was heavy, but I didn’t mind it.

My app-for-that told me the lightning was going north-east at a bearing that would miss us and carry on up to Downham Market and Kings Lynn. I did like that.
