Ring of Brodgar

Two good friends died last week, Jon and Jim, and both of them very keen on stone circles and all things ancient, so I sat here all afternoon, sheltering from the wind behind a little hillock, warm (at last) in the sunshine, writing poems, and shedding a tear or two. Here is a poem dedicated to the to if them.

Ring of Brodgar

A ring of stones stands like a circle of ancestors, gathering together

And here our ancestors gathered in circles, proud and strong as a ring of stones

And we hold out our hands, and we join them
