Lozarhythm Of The Day:
George Jones - White Lightning (1959)
R.I.P. George Jones (b. 12 September 1931, d. 26 April 2013)
George Jones arrived at the recording session for this rockabilly track with a stupefying hangover, and it took him 80 takes or more just to record his vocal properly. Buddy Killen, the upright bass player, had such severely blistered fingers as a result he not only threatened to quit the session at that point, but also announced his intention to physically injure George Jones because of the painful consequences of his drinking.
White Lightning was released as a single, and reached number one in April 1959, two months after its songwriter, J. P. 'The Big Bopper' Richardson, was killed in the same plane crash as Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens.
