Caen Hill Marina (Sunday 4th September 2022)

It's probably just me but I find there's something melancholy about festivals. I had a wander around the Melksham Food And River Festival this afternoon but didn't take any pictures, although I did have a useful chat with two members of the Wilts And Berks Canal Trust who had a stand there. One of them is going to send me a link to a large scale map of the projected new canal and river navigation route through Melksham. The festival wasn't actually by the River Avon but I did wander up to it for a short walk while I was there.

I pulled up at Martinslade on the drive home and walked up the Kennet and Avon to the footbridge just past Caen Hill Marina. I saw this bridge lowered so that a car could drive over it to a parking spot beside some moored narrowboats on the canal and then raised again.

While the marina was being constructed it was possible to walk around it and take pictures, but now it has paying customers this is not allowed.

Tomorrow I'm off to Dorset to meet up with my brother at an RSPB reserve so probably won't be blipping until Tuesday or Wednesday.
