Baddesley Clinton's big sister?

We packed up the motorhome in dry weather this morning and drove a short distance to Oxburgh Hall - a moated manor house sharing some architectural and many historical features with Baddesley Clinton.

Oxburgh is similar in that it originated in the Tudor period and has a square moat,  the family had to deal with the intolerant* attitudes to their Catholic faith and had mixed fortunes over the centuries.  The house is however, rather bigger and was much hacked about in the Victorian times.  Very impressive all the same and well worth a visit.

* less charitable descriptions might be more appropriate!

In 2016 a window fell out of the house exposing some very serious decay in the basic structure.  The National Trust spent ~£6.5M on restorative work which is most easily seen in the roof tiles which had to be replaced en-masse.

We are now set up near Burnham Market - might cycle to Creake Abbey tomorrow.
