‘The Vital Link’

This is the humble connector used by my iPhone and many other similar Apple devices to charge them, as well as to connect to a range of peripherals - host computers, external monitors, cameras, and the like. 

First introduced in September 2012, the Lightning connector is gradually being replaced by the USB-C connector, increasingly used by larger devices such as iPads and laptops. 

This process is likely to be accelerated by recent EU measures making the latter mandatory - to cut down the number of charging cables you have to use and to reduce waste.
