Coffee by Candlelight

The storm
turns off
the lights.

The lightning
lights the whereabouts
of the flashlight.

The flashlight
takes us to matches
and candles, the oil lamp.

Now we’re back,
revisiting
the 19th century.

One Light to Another, by Jonathan Greene

Somewhere in all the wind and rain last night there was apparently a loud booming noise followed by all the power going out, so getting ready for work this morning was done by candlelight. Fortunately it wasn't very cold and we have enough water set aside in case something like this happens. The propane stovetop still works as well, so at least I was able to relax with a good cup of coffee before leaving the house.

By some ironic coincidence the theme for Mono Monday was "candlelight," so I got my day's photo out of the way as well. Go figure.

By the time I came home power had been restored and things were back to normal. Everything in the fridge was fine, the cat was safe, and nothing got frozen. Just a little reminder that winter's on the way!
