This pest is no substitute for the ladybirds I used to have in my garden. Late spring there would be an invasion of eleven-spotted and two-spotted ladybirds mowing down the aphids. This season I have seen only one with two spots and this harlequin. The various aphid tribes, however, are teeming over everything. I can’t spray them because of the valued insects, such as praying mantis, solitary bees and hoverflies. The only way to deal with bad infestations is to remove the plant. This includes my curly parsley crop and the Angelica flowers.
