Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Sheila Chandra - Dhyana and Donalogue (recorded December 1991-January 1992, The Coachouse, Bristol)
Sheila Chandra has come along way since being a young teenager in Grange Hill, and established a whole new genre called Indipop with the band Monsoon. She went on to develop pioneering experimental and traditional vocal techniques and has become a major artist despite having health issues following an accident.
With Monsoon she appeared on Top Of The Pops performing Ever So Lonely, a song that has had many lives. There is another version of it on the album Weaving My Ancestor's Voices, from which this also comes.
I have known this item since 1999 when I bought a compilation called Moonsung, drawn from her period with Real World Records in Box, and it has been on my LOTD shortlist for some time. I acquired a 2CD collection of Monsoon's work together with this Sheila Chandra album very recently, so this accapella piece sung partially in English chose itself as today's selection.
