The Woodland Garden (Monday 27th February 2023)

The first Russian Snowdrops (Puschkinia scilloides var. libanotica) have made a tentative appearance. I think we planted 100.
In Extras, another hellebore and a sprig of forsythia, coming back after a savage pruning.

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Martha Veléz - In My Girlish Days (1969)
Back in 1969 I picked up a single by Martha Veléz for two shillings, because it was a Bob Dylan song, and this led me to buy her debut album, Fiends And Angels. I don't remember what became of it, but Cerys Matthews played this track from it on her Radio 2 Blues Show this evening.
Martha Carmen Josephine Hernandéz Rosario de Veléz (born in New York City on 25 August 25) is an American singer, and later an actress, of Puerto Rican descent.  She released her debut blues-rock album Fiends and Angels on the Sire/Blue Horizon Records label in 1969. Backing musicians included guitarists Eric 'God' Clapton, Stan Webb (Chicken Shack), and Paul Kossoff (Free) on guitar, Christine McVie (Chicken Shack) on keyboards, Jack Bruce on bass, Mitch Mitchell (The Jimi Hendrix Experience) on drums, and Brian Auger on organ, as well as a top brass and horns section. The album was produced by Blue Horizon blues producer Mike Vernon, probably at Decca Studios in West Hampstead.
