Grey Seal

I went over to Shapinsay for a cycle around. Seals pulled out by the village shop on the shore at Balfour village, as usual at low tide. I counted 11 harbour seals but the image is of a big bull grey seal that hauled out among them and was quite vocal- I think to tell the much smaller male harbour seals to stay away, which they did. When you look at those jaws, you can hardly blame them. As I have mentioned before, greys are increasing in Orkney and harbour seals declining and it isn't clear why. Extra of a couple of harbour seals. The number of harbour seals had increased to 16 when I cycled back to the ferry.
