High light

The lighthouse on Deal Island in Bass Strait is said to be the highest above sea in the Southern Hemisphere. It was built in 1848 and turned off in 1992. Modern navigation techniques, it seems, lessen the need for lighthouses.

The flat-bottomed vessel is the ‘tender’ for our cruise ship, Coral Discoverer, here taking passengers ashore.

This is a back-blip. There was no internet connection on Deal Island.
