An adrenaline rush at the end of the trip

The hotel last night was nice- big rooms, aircon, a swimming pool we didn’t get time to try, as we went for a wander last night before it got dark. We saw a toucan and a motmot which was lovely.

Dinner was $20 for a buffet - there are 2 large groups of American birders staying. Mr C had a tuna sandwich which was $10 so I went for the buffet - nice salads and some rice - the rest was meat. I had a glass of wine which gave me the bottle to sign up for zip-lining this morning. The sensible young folk are staying to look at birds at the feeder.

Those of us zipping had a great time. A few young men made sure we were hooked up properly and gave instructions for how to approach each of the 11 lines. Some we had to pull on the wire with our gloved hand to slow us down, whereas others needed no braking. We had to lean back in the harness, pull up our knees and cross our ankles and whoosh, off we went over the forest canopy. At some stages we had to walk uphill between wires and watch out for snakes. We saw none though we did see a sloth high in a tree. The best wire was the last, steeply down over theSaraquipi River. It was fun though much smaller than our last one, (2017), in another area of Costa Rica. It cost $66 each.

The bus took us back to the hotel to pick up the others then we set off for our last destination, San Jose, stopping en route at a huge canteen place to eat lunch. Jo, the vegan, bought a big avocado for $4.50 in a market instead. Expensive perhaps but maybe wise.

We crossed some forested mountains to arrive in San Jose where we’ll spend our last night. We’ve been told not to go out on our own at night. Things are very different from 6 years ago when we happily wandered downtown. Our hotel is a good half hour walk away so we’ll not bother as we spent a few days here last time. We’ve had enough excitement for one day!

The blip is me but not taken by me.
