Information gateway

I was impressed by the ironwork on this and wondered how much more detailed it would look without the decades of paint that is layered on it. This is one of the gate post at the entrance to New Register House which is the General Register Office for Scotland. It seems that in 2011 they amalgamated with the National Archives of Scotland to become the National Records of Scotland.

Whatever they call themselves now, this is the place responsible for the registration of events such as births, marriages, civil partnerships, deaths, the census every 10 years and the publication of statistics that give government, local authorities and commercial organisations the opportunity to come to the wrong conclusions. For the genealogists out there this is the place to come if you want to find out if you are related to Tom, Dick and perhaps even Harry.
