At home: chick on the run!

This is a 4 day old French Marran crossed with a Bluebell chick. It's come out of the incubator much as I has expected and hoped. Cross breeding chickens is a little like mixing the colours on a palate. The shiny black of the French Marran and the grey of the bluebell should produce a dark grey bird, with a large rounder body.

I has some lovely hens from a Bluebell cross light Sussex mix last year, which sold well. From this you get a smaller bantam like hen, but a beautiful light grey, lavender colour. Again the mix of the Sussex and the Bluebell means you still get a good laying hen too.

This one has a piece of wood chip stuck to its chest. A non scientific fix of the kitchen tap to soak it off did the trick .... Plus a happier chick! X
