NDSM Shipyard

Today I was at the NDSM terrain in Amsterdam North. It used to be a very large shipyard, from 1894 and 1979. Now it is a creative 'breeding place'. With grounds exceeding the size of ten football pitches, the NDSM Wharf hosts festivals, performances, exhibitions and a wide range of other events. It is also home to a huge range of artists, craftspeople and theatre producers.
From 4th until 14th of july there is a big cultural festival, called the Over Het IJ Festival.

I am a volunteer in one of the productions, called "Facade". It is an exchange between three Dutch and four Moroccan theater makers. The play is about seven young people who meet in an abandoned industrial area somewhere in a big city. What are they looking for? What attracts them in their area? What does the past mean for their contemporary life? Are they looking for a free haven from the bustle of the city, or are they just looking for new opportunities?

I am just one of the almost 10 extra's. I get to drive in one of the taxi's where the audience sits in. I drive them around the shipyard, from one place to another, from one story to another. So the taxi is a part of the performance.
