The Edge of the Wold

Icarus

The sunflower grew in a pot from a seed planted and forgotten by a coal tit. The marmalade hoverflies with their tiger colours and stripes love it. This was a one and only opportunity to snatch a shot of one in flight while the flower enjoyed the last bright light before the sun slipped down below the roof line of our neighbour's house.

And speaking of sunlight, I am already becoming obsessive about monitoring how much electricity we are generating, and watching the temperature of the hot water tank. A couple of hours sunshine is all that's needed to heat the whole tank to 55 degrees C or more. We didn't get that yesterday, and it was just too cool for a bath to be enjoyable; tonight will be different.
