A view from St Swithin

Glencoe to Kinlochleven

Our penultimate day and we walked from Glencoe over the hill to Kinlochleven. It’s been another fantastic day and looking north there were great views of the Mammores and the big hills around Fort William.
In days gone by Kinlochleven used to have an aluminium smelter powered by a hydro scheme fed by the Blackwater reservoir at the back of the town. Vestiges of its industrial past remain and there is a museum to the aluminium industry. Because of the hydro scheme the town was the first in the world to have every house connected to electricity.
