35 Years! Day 4, Cairo, Sunday
I’m a few days behind with blip, just because we’re out and about all day with no wifi, and then I’m too tired to blip late at night.
This is our 35th wedding anniversary today though, so I’m keen to blip on the day! We celebrated with lunch, buying t-shirts for Bb, a scarf for me, and an old Egyptian film poster for us both. Lovely to be here in Cairo to celebrate this happy day. A bit different from Crail, where we got married! Both have special places in our hearts.
It’s been a lovely day, albeit different from what we’d planned! A relaxed breakfast on the hotel verandah. A wander around the streets we know in Zamalek, near the hotel. We wanted to revisit a few little shops here - some still on the go and others either just closed or closed down.
Our plan was to go for lunch somewhere on the banks of The Nile, but we changed our minds as it was hot and we were getting a bit weary. So we decided to have lunch in La Trattoria Italian restaurant (where we met Omar Sharif many years ago) - it was nearby, the food is very good and the service is great. The right choice! We shared a green salad with blue cheese, apples and nuts and then shared a fileto de manzo with vegetables and roast potatoes. All delicious and un-rushed.
Back to the hotel and thought we’d have a wee siesta and then go somewhere with a Nile view for a drink in the early evening. However, the best laid plans and all that - we both fell fast asleep, only wakening after 2 and a half hours! We must have needed it! So, we stayed locally again and walked around the block, along The Nile, ending up in The Five Bells (an old favourite) and enjoyed a drink in their garden.
The main blip was taken on the verandah of the hotel and the two extras in La Trattoria.
