Spanish Castle Hvar

Today we walked up to the castle above Hvar. It’s known locally as the Spanish castle after the two Spanish engineers brought over by the Venetians to build it. Havr was an important port for the Venetian Empire as it has a natural shelter from storms and enabled trading around the Adriatic. The locals say it was sardines that made their fortune although since the 1700s it has been lavender and tourism.
