More digging

This doesn’t look very exciting . . . but it is. I think so anyway. This is the start of another archaeological dig, just across the road from this https://www.blipfoto.com/entry/3379155689292170715
So almost certainly part of the same Roman settlement.

As we were passing on our way from Penrith, I suggested we stopped to see what was going on. Very soon we had a guy from the construction company telling us about the bridges they are building, now the A66 project has been given the go ahead.

Then we were joined by two of the archaeologists working on this site - they were very keen to talk about what they were doing, what they hope to find, where the other sites are etc. These young people were so knowledgable and enthusiastic. It’s all fascinating. Well worth going to have a look at what is going on, if you are in the area.

Later we got a message from our daughter. She is in Cornwall, staying in the Newlyn cottage with Maisie and one dog. This was Maisie’s request after she finished her exams. They’ve been swimming, cycling and walking, all the things Maisie loves to do . . . and Clair is just about keeping up with her! They are going to the little cinema tonight . . . for a rest!
