Bereaved

Went down to the village and met a good friend and had a coffee.
They said that the word bereaved was named after the border reavers who came down to the hills to plunder and kill. Hence if you had lost your family in a raid you were bereaved.
Not sure if I believe it but I suppose Arnside Tower was built as a refuge and insurance against being bereaved.
Ken would have loved that story.
