Diary of an Edinburgher

Something is missing…

Well, my prediction of an all action day proved to be quite prophetic...We've had several stresses, total panics and dramas throughout the day.

Having not been able to check in with KLM yesterday, I was pleased to see an email this morning to do so. But when I tried to check in, still no flight listed. Nothing. T'was as if they'd never heard of us. I spent quite a while with a chat bot, going round in circles, but still no joy. In the end the bot texted, 'If you can't check in, just go to the desk at the airport, they'll do it for you.'

So I surmised that this meant we'd have to arrive at the airport a bit earlier than planned, as Hazel informed me we'd be the first bumped off if they overbook. So I needed to change the time of the complimentary taxi. Not so simple. I had to cancel, but couldn't book again. Eventually found that I had to book in through the special Cruiseline link. Of course. All done.

I then texted the two house sitters, just to 'touch base' and see where they were on their travels. One is on her way to Paris, then London, then here. The other mentioned several places, but that she 'wasn't getting to Scotland this year'... I sensed a slight problem, and texted back, 'Edinburgh is in Scotland...' A bit of a misunderstanding has happened, as I was arranging two sitters for two holidays, and wires were crossed. I immediately texted our two wonderful pals, Christine and Elizabeth, and yes, between them they can look after him!! How lucky are we!!

Archie had a few walkies, in between the showers. Then he had a bath. Then we packed up all his stuff and set off across town to deliver him to his holiday home. But the quick road through the Park is CLOSED. All day, every day apparently. Has been for months. Back round through town, down the Royal Mile, being held up at at least THREE road works with looooong waits at red lights. It took us ONE HOUR to get there!!! Usually a 20 minute trip.

Delivered Archie to his pals, and he seemed pleased to see them and was straight out into the back garden. JR had the good idea of including frozen peas to add to his food, as we had no carrots. As we were chatting about the peas and his tea, someone mentioned... er, where is his food? Oh NO!!! We had forgotten his food! AND his special water dish, AND his bran pellets. DUH! The thought of driving back (1 hour) then back again (1 hour) then home again (1 hour) was NOT appealing. But it had to be done.

We went back a different way, which involved NO road works, so NO hold up, so it took 20 minutes both ways. Meanwhile, in the car, before we got home, Derek had sent us FOUR videos of Archie out walking, Archie having his tea, Archie pushing his dish around, Archie sitting at Derek's feet. Plus several photos.

The final straw in the crisis packed day was my fault. I had just placed the big box of kibble on the back seat... a car zoomed out from a road on the left, causing JR to brake... and yes, the big container of kibble fell off, spilling the contents all over the floor and under the front seat. *sigh*

So here he is, ready to go on his hols. His STUFF didn't look as much as usual...
