St. Clement’s Island
We took our grandson for a ride on the river to visit St. Clement’s Island. It is the site of the first Catholic Mass in the British colonies in America, conducted by Fr. Andrew White. The enormous cross on the island is a tribute to that mass, and the cross erected by Fr. White. The original cross that Fr. White erected was discovered in the archives at Georgetown University in 1989.
We had to dodge a minefield of crab pots to get to the island. I guess we now know where the crabs are!
