Eye to Eye

Sunrise on the way up …

(Yesterday’s walk to the hut, back blipped if you have time)

… to the summit of the Pigne d’Arolla at 3,787m. I last climbed this peak when I was 19, it was my first Alpine peak. But if you look at the three figures in the right of the photo, there is a little boy, only 10 years old with his father and uncle, who did the summit today. Amazing!
We then had to walk 1,800m back down to Arolla, a killer walk with the glacier softening as we left the hut. Oh boy did we enjoy ice-cream at the Hotel de la Pigne, and we had a lovely hour with Joan, who is now 90 and still living in this high altitude village on her own!
Extra, on the summit, the Matterhorn in the background.
