New variety Mango

We have a big focus on propagating improved variety fruit on the Lusangazu farm.
This is one of nine varieties of Mango, called Tommy, by our workers.
This is produced by sowing the large seeds in the middle of a local mango and grafting an improved scion onto it.
The local mango all fruit at the same time and have a short window between ripening and rotting. They provide a great food source when food is getting scarce in Northern Malawi. The other varieties expand this window by fruiting at different times.
We are doing it now for the past four years, mainly producing citrus seedlings and over 20,ooo plants in all, which we distribute locally.
We also train the local and not so local farmers to do the same and have their own fruits to improve diet.
