A visit to the theatre

A very rare and unusual occurrence this evening.

We met up with our friends from Bray, had a meal in Ely Gastro Bar, fortunately met more friends who reminded us that starting time for Priscilla Queen of the Desert - The Musical was 7:30 and not 8:00 as we had assumed without checking our tickets.

What a show! It was great fun, wonderfully hectic and colourful and full of the most eccentric and over-the-top costumes imaginable (with costume changes to beat the band). All done very slickly, and hugely enjoyable. Mind you, it was a big shock for me when the audience started right off during the overture clapping along with the music and fell a-clapping over and over and over and over again. I mean, for someone of my tender sensibilities, used to the operatic world, this sort of behaviour is a huge surprise!

After the show we went over to The Marker hotel (why the weird name, I wonder?) for drinks. They weren't keen on letting us in at first, wanting to know if we were there 'for one of the functions' and apologising for being 'full'. I was having none of that, and pointed out that six people had just come out so there must be room for the four of us. We got in, and spent a pleasant while there. A taxi to College Green, an hour in Doyle's wait-f0r-the-Nitelink pub, and the 2:00 am late bus back to Carl's place finished off a super Night.
