Preening Grey Heron

Taken in the Beveridge Park, Kirkcaldy at 4pm on 23/10/13.
A pair of grey herons were on the island a short distance from each other - both preening, One was in sunshine, the other in shadow.

Preening must be a really tricky procedure for a bird with such a long bill and long neck. This one loved to show off that he/she could do it whilst balancing on one leg.
