Desperately seeking

Going Down, Down, Down.

Tuesday is the turnaround point of our narrowboat holiday. We wanted to experience the Anderton Lift system which transfers narrowboats from the Trent & Mersey Canal to the river Weaver, and vice versa. This is an imense structure which moves 4 boats at a time: 2 up and two down which counterweight each other. The metal water tanks (caissons) can hold 2 boats side by side. In the blip, our boat is going down and above us, on the right of the picture is the other tank going up. Have a look at Chippy's scary view of it!

We had a pleasant cruise up the Weaver to its highest navigable point, there we turned to head back, ready to go up in the lift tomorrow afternoon. It's hard to realise our holiday is past the half-way point!
