Low Windows

In my memory
this is where the Chemist used to be.
I wonder if I’ve got that right?

Opposite was a butcher
- one of two –
(now a Chinese takeaway)
and the Doctor’s surgery
was housed in a house
just up the road.

The village must have shrunk.
It only takes me ten minutes
to walk round it now.

I could have sworn
it used to take me hours
to wander round its streets

and that the windows
we used to throw stones at,
and try to break,
were all much larger, grander, higher.
