Bodymoor Heath

On the anniversary of the birthdate of both of our parents, the Spotlight Kid and I travelled up to the Midlands to pay our respects at the memorial bench in the Kingsbury Water Park. It was replaced with a new oak model last summer and this was the first time the Spotlight Kid had seen it.

The journey up from Calne was beset with delays and road closures and we arrived at the Dog and Doublet an hour later than planned, and then after lunch found that both of the footpaths into the park from the canal towpath were closed because of building works and had to retrace our steps and then go a long way round to reach the bench, which overlooks one of the lakes. We were treated to a swift flypast by a kingfisher and saw wigeon, geese, a family of grebes, other ducks and swans on the lakes.

This was taken on the walk from the pub, at Curdworth Lock - you can just see Kingsbury Swivel Bridge to the right.

I got us back to Calne by early evening, but the Spotlight Kid had a couple of hours drive ahead to get back to Dorset.
