Jumping Down Sugar Mountain

Some of the old photographs of the Greenock sugar sheds offer a fascinating glimpse into the lost world of the sugar industry which existed in Inverclyde for 250 years until the mid 1990s.

This is the large shed - Shed B - we think it was called.

These trucks would load up and take sugar up the road to Walker's/Westburn.

Two of the Absent Voices artists, Alec Galloway and Rod Miller, remember jumping down these vast sugar mountains as boys.
