Solitudinem faciunt ...

I fear I may have used this title for a blip before - Tacitus put the sentence Solitudinem faciunt, pacem appellant into the mouth of the Scottish warrior Calgacus, talking about the Romans who, he said, created a wilderness and called it peace. I can't help thinking of it every time we come upon a new piece of felled forest - not that I love the ranks of pine forests, but the desolation left after industrial felling is horrid.

On the bright side, Glen Massan's profile emerges much more clearly than when we couldn't see the wood for the trees - maybe in a few years it will green over and look less like a battlefield.
