The second half of life..

Wharariki energy

Had vaguely considered getting up very early to head to Wharariki for the sunrise but the bod decided it liked sleeping so had to setle for an ambling, leisurely walk over there mid morning.

This place never disappoints - whether it's windy (90% of the time), wet, sunny, cloudy, winter, summer, spring or autumn, it's always a sight to behold.

The wind today was whipping the incoming waves into great crests whose tops were then blown off and dissolved into spray. The colour of the water here is absolutely gorgeous.

Had a coffee at the "Archway Cafe" when I got back to the car park - an old hiace campervan that has been turned into a coffee bar, seats are set amongst the trees and slabs of wood are 'fitted' to trees as tables. An absolutely wonderful open, airy setting and a nice cup of coffee too ;)

Spent an hour or two (it's easy to lose track of time up here) at the base of Farewell Spit in the sun just relaxing and whiling away some time in total peace. I need more times like this.

Back to my 'go to' freedom camping area a handful of kms away, just south of Puponga. I was shocked to find myself sharing it with another 13 vehicles! Obviously the word is out!
