Patchwork

We in Florida!

And all the better because it was snowing again this morning. As we zipped by white fields and black, naked trees on the way to the airport, I thought of palm fronds wafting in the breeze, green grass, blue skies and soft, fragrant, tropical air. And so it is. My ambition for today was simply to wear a dress, a pair of Keens, no socks and to sip a glass of wine outdoors. Didn't quite manage the table outdoors, but everything else was perfect. Oh yes, and the temperature difference between Minneapolis and Fort Myers? Seventy two degrees.

The picture, which was taken from the plane (obviously) is probably of Illinois or Indiana and it shows just how snowbound we still are in the midwest. I like it because you can see how the land was originally divided up into square mile lots - 16o acres - and if you look closely, how how the square mile was split again into 4 40-acre farms, which were then sold off by the government. You can even see the farm buildings dotted about.
