Cheers to the Oyster Man

A 'handful' of prawn tails and 8 oysters (when we'd asked for 6)... The Oyster Man at the Oyster Shed does it again. In the decade we've been coming to Skye we've long lamented the inability to get local shellfish, with it all heading off in refrigerated lorries for the continent. Last year the trend was bucked with a trip to the Oyster Shed, where the Oyster Man had decided to start selling direct to the public instead of just to trade.

And that little lot? £6. Cracking.

Spent a reasonable amount of time in the car in the morning, taking a trip to Skye Silver (for a wee something for me to supplement something bought last year); the Orbost Gallery (which is in its last year - we spoke to owner Marion today about it, and turns out she's 80 now (looks nothing like it) and has been running the gallery since 1975 and wants her summers back. I'm slightly ashamed to say I've never bought any of Marion's art (some beautiful-but-not-my-style calligraphy), but in the years if coming here I've got four prints by Paul Kershaw, one by Freddy Theys and Mel has an Andrew McMorrine, so we've contributed...); quick spin by Talisker for a new bottle; and then of course the Oyster Shed.

But the afternoon had a nice coastal walk around Tarskavaig, with quite some time spent sitting just watching the water, gradually getting cut off by the incoming tide (having first ascertained we had an easy bail out to the cliffs above).

Tomorrow, possibly Raasay.
