Geoff was a D-day survivor
Today is a good day to blip my late Godparents, Mr & Mrs G Wood. Many readers will remember the sad story of "Aunty" June, who died last July. Her husband, Geoffrey, was my Godfather - and what a lovely man he was.
I have been thinking of Geoffrey a lot today, because as a young 18 year old he landed on the beaches in Normandy 70 years ago today. He served in the Durham Light Infantry. As is so often the case we never talked about his action, although in a telephone call I made to his sister today I learnt that she had typed up 'his experiences'. I do hope that she finds it - what amazing chaps they were.
The photograph that I have placed by the side of their gravestone was taken at my son's Christening, back in 1996.
