Walk in the woods in Prague

In the midst of Prague suburbia there are some surprises. Today Barb and I visited one of them - Kunraticky and Michelsky woods. Just steps from a suburban metro station these two adjoining woods together cover some 700 acres. I have been told tales of deer, but sadly we didn't see any. We got the idea from David Borrowman's book "Run, Hike, Bike Prague".

We spent the morning walking, and getting lost, on the myriad paths that criss-cross the woods. We found Novy Hradek, which is an old castle ruin. This shortlived castle was built in 1411-1412, and Wenceslas IV died there in 1419. In 1421 the castle was destroyed.

We found a delightful pond, surrounded by people fishing and enjoying the sunny weather, and saw families of ducks.

Lovely morning!
