Nether Kirkyard, St Cyrus

Took a walk along the St Cyrus shore. Saw a Whitethroat - a tiny wee bird - for the first time, but he wouldn't stay still long enough for me to capture him on camera. The Kirkyard is said to date back to 1242. The local poet George Beattie tragically shot himself in this kirkyard in 1823 after his lover jilted him for a wealthier man. I noticed a gravestone date 1942, but whether it was a gravestone or simply a commemoration stone I'm not sure.

The small building at the back left of the shot was used as a watch hut. The family of the recently buried would stay in the building overnight to guard against body snatchers, who would take fresh bodies for medical research in a bid to learn more about human anatomy.
