The door to our home for the next week - the Chapterhouse at Fort Augustus Abbey. The Chapterhouse was the building in which the monks met daily to discuss business and to hear a chapter of the monastic rule. In a strange twist of fate, we found out after we booked our holiday that Dougie's dad used to travel here regularly to do the accounts for the abbey! Before we left he gave us a booklet he received on one of his visits that has a picture of the Chapterhouse before the abbey was renovated and turned into holiday apartments (I'll scan in and post the pic when I get home). The renovation has been very sympathetic, retaining the majority of the original walls and floors and, of course, the stunning vaulted ceiling.

The whole abbey is absolutely beautiful, and despite having only been here for about six hours I already know that I won't want to leave when it comes to it. The scenery on the drive up was breathtaking, the A82 cutting a route through many Munroes, including Glencoe and Ben Nevis, and we were very lucky with the weather - blue skies all the way! We'll definitely be stopping for photos on the way back home, we were just too excited about getting here to stop on the way up!
