Retro Drive-in

What an adventure we had today! We looked in Courtney's AAA book & saw that there was a 40 ft. waterfall not far from Lake George, so we asked the girls if they'd like to go see it. They were so excited!! "Can we jump off the waterfall"? (no)..."Can we throw a boat off the waterfall"? (no)..."Can we climb the waterfall"? (no)....So we packed them both up, & Courtney looked up the directions on her phone, which sounded like it would be very easy to find, & we took off. An hour later, as we drove back & forth, totally lost, Tom announces for the 4th time how if he'd been in charge of the "adventure" he'd have looked it up first on google earth so we'd have known exactly how to get there! At which point Courtney pulls into a gas station & tells her dad to go in & ask for directions...well, you know that men don't like to ask for directions, so he wouldn't go inside--instead he got out & asked a guy at the gas pump. After a lot of arm waving & pointing by the guy at the pump, Tom comes back & tells us to go up past the McDonald's & turn rt. ...so Courtney did, only then Tom couldn't remember the rest of the directions! So amid choruses of "Are we almost there yet", & "Mommy, I'm getting hot!" & "I'm hungry", we stopped at another gas station & I ran in. The girl at the counter said she was new to the area & knew nothing about a waterfall. We decided to try 1 more time at the gas station down the street, but then I spotted a policeman & told Courtney to pull over. I ran out & asked him about it, & he said the waterfall had been dammed off several years ago, & was now part of the power plant. The gates were closed, so there was nothing to see!! Tom again reminded us that we should have used google earth, at which time Courtney told him to "zip it!" So we headed back toward home, & on the way, decided to stop at this cute retro custard stand! They were playing music from the 50's & 60's, & believe it or not, they had CARHOPS! I haven't seen car hops since I was a little kid! You pull in & park, then turn on your lights when you're ready to order, & the car hop comes out, takes your order, & then delivers it when it's ready. What a throwback to a different time! People must like it, as it was packed! I took the girls to the play area off to the side, & that's when I saw the corner of the place reflected in the mirror. Since the waterfall didn't pan out, this is it for today! Home tomorrow already---why is it that the time always drags when you're waiting to go on vacation, & it just flies by once you're ON vacation!! :)
