Surgical Camp, Eye Care in #Zanzibar

In Zanzibar our partner, the Zanzibar Outreach Programme stages surgical camps to treat sight problems such as cataracts. At a recent camp 15 patients underwent surgery for cataracts.

Zanzibar Outreach Programme also runs health educations sessions providing information about avoidable hearing impairment and how to care for the eyes.

As well as this they also stage clinics to check for any early signs of sight loss. Anyone who is identified as having sight problems either receives on the spot treatment or, with more serious cases are referred for further medical care - such as the surgical camps.

IMPACT firmly believes that prevention is better than cure - identifying issues with eyesight at an early stage means they can be treated before they develop into a more serious health condition. However, where this is not possible we provide surgery to restore sight free of charge for those who would simply be unable to afford the cost themselves.

Thanks to our strong links with local partners a life changing operation to restore sight, hearing, or mobility costs IMPACT just £40. However, it is invaluable in providing a renewed opportunity to return to work to support a household or being able to attend school once more to learn.
