Mama Ya ya

Symi - Day 13

We took a trip to the third and least populated village on the island today, Pedi. Village might be stretching the use of the word a little as it is really a row of houses along the coast, parts of which can pass for a beach ....with a bit of imagination and some imported sand*. Near one end is taverna Tolis, another family run business and this lovely lady is the grand dame of the establishment. She speaks not a word of English but I used actions with words to ask for a photo, to which she said "neh" (yes). She then told me she was called Mama Ya Ya, which I thought was her name but actually means mother-grandmother, therefore I asume she is a great grandmother.

*All the "beaches" here are bascially pebbles and rocks. No bucket and spade holidays here.
