Traditional and modern rural life
As we passed this traditional style farmhouse on our exploration of the river Manas, the small children crowded to the window to see the strangers passing, to satisfy their curiosity.
It all looks as though it hasn't changed for years until you notice the solar panel on the roof.
Indeed, the Royal Government of Bhutan has made impressive strides in providing piped water and electricity to remote communities, even where they were only accessible by footpath (as is the case here). At the next village we were offered soft drinks from the fridge, although the village was about 5 km from the nearest road and both drinks and fridge would have been carried there!
