Traditional Turf Houses

We stopped at an abandoned farm on the hillside west of the road to Reykjavik. The full force of an Atlantic wind almost toppled us. Most of the shots were blurred because of tripod movement as we had to keep aperture small and exposure long at the lowest ISO. This was, after all, a workshop led by an old school landscape photographer. Must admit, I would take more care over my landscape shots in future.

The farm was abandoned only four years ago. The original buildings were banked up with turf to protect the structures and to keep out the gales. I'd missed them on the way to the east but noticed quite a few turf houses on the way back. They would have accommodated both people and animals.
