Matariki (the Registry), University of Canterbury

The great thing about 1960's architecture is that it polarises opinions. It was dubbed 'Brutalism' by British architectural critic Reyner Banham in 1966, and when you see concrete tower blocks together, you can kind of see why.

The University of Canterbury is a campus that is dominated by such buildings, most notable Puaka/James Hight and the Registry, now renamed Matariki. Whilst you may think the concrete is oppressive, I like the forms and shadows the buildings create.
