Taj Mahal

Day 6 of our India trip, and our second day in and around Agra.

We first visited the Taj Mahal yesterday morning, but this evening we were aiming to photograph it at sunset. The colour of the marble can change depending on the direction and nature of the light on it. There are some gardens directly opposite the building from which you get a square-on view, but they don't allow tripods in there, so we eventually ended up down by the river, with a slight angle on the building, and stayed there until it was almost dark.

However, I think I preferred this view, taken an hour or so earlier. Our excellent Indian guide had found a spot further down the river where we could get access to the river bank with a very clear view of the splendid palace. A slight evening haze softened the view, but a group of people with their goats provided a wonderful bold foreground which I felt made an attractive and, perhaps, slightly different view of the monument.

Tonight we catch the sleeper train to travel down to Varanasi: could be interesting!

Back blipped after my return to the UK as I had limited editing facilities with me and intermittent access to wifi.
