Male

Male orb web spiders are free ranging fellows that don’t advertise their whereabouts with a spectacular web. Spotting them is a matter of luck. I saw this one scrabble behind a leaf and I turned it over to get the shot. It was about 1.5m from the place where I captured a female a year ago. They are quite different, but obviously related.

New Zealand native orb web spider, probably Novaranea queribunda, male.

Another low cloud day.

All the best to the Blip Team for the big changeover.
