The Edge of the Wold

Volcanic eruption seen from Arnside?

Sunset this evening as seen from Arnside Pier with black-headed gulls in the foreground. There was not a lot of cloud, but what there was was low on the horizon. As the sun sank there was just a touch of volcanic caldera about the view into the Lake District. Or maybe it's just my imagination.

I was out early this morning, but somehow nothing quite compared to this. I have been seeing a flock of about 70 lapwings the last two mornings, and on both occasions they have been in flight in the low morning light. The reflected light alternating between the dark upper wing and the white underneath gives them the appearance of a cloud of glitter. But could I photograph it? No.

A long day at work trying to clear the decks before having a week off next week.

I'm trying out something new today. Something that may take a little time to master.

There are two more images from today on here.

ps If you haven't seen the finished life.turns film, it is well worth a watch.
